Dear Alfred,
Thank you so much for your quick response to my email. As I stated in my last
email, I have been terrified of this travelling for most of my life as I have
not understood what was going on. Now, at the age of 40, I am beginning to
understand and look forward to my "adventures". First I will tell you of one
of the most frightening experiences I have ever had.
About four years ago, maybe five years, I was an independent freelance graphic artist and publisher. I had much work. In fact, too much work. Sometimes I would go 36 to 48 hours with no sleep other than what I called power naps, which amounted to no more than 30 to 45 minutes of sleep. During these naps I would have various "mini dreams", but didn't have time to keep a journal at that time. Most of these dreams went ignored for the most part with the exception of two very vivid experiences. The dreams always left me with a great curiosity about what was happening to me. This curiosity has always been foremost in my mind my entire life.
One particular morning, probably around 3 or 4 AM, I finally finished my work for the night and retired for sleep. Before retiring I felt a heavy spinning sensation at the center of my forehead and had begun to see flashes of small specks of different colored light. I've always been one that could recline, block out all worries, relax and go fast asleep in 3 to 5 minutes and have never practiced any type of meditation. This particular night was no exception.
As I closed my eyes I immediately began to see a swirling cloud of beautiful purplish pink color. I had watched this cloud on many nights before this evening because I was fascinated with the brilliance of the color. It helped me relax and fall to sleep; however, this time, as I watched the color I suddenly began to hear a loud ringing in my ears. The ringing was so loud it was almost unbearable. I tried to sit in bed and found that I couldn't move. All of a sudden my body was surged with extremely strong vibrations that engulfed my whole body.
When I felt the vibrations I immediately started panicking and fought to wake myself to no avail. Then suddenly, the vibrations eased and I found myself standing in my bedroom. I don't recall seeing my body upon the bed, but I distinctly recall knowing that my physical body was elsewhere. The room looked strangely dark, but appeared exactly as it had appeared before going to sleep. I examined the trinket boxes and stuffed animals I kept on my dresser.
Then I turned to the open door of my bedroom and noted that there was total darkness beyond the door. I walked toward the door with the intention of investigating why all the lights were out. I've always slept with "guiding lights" turned on in the house so that I can see what's going on around me at all times. I walked or glided toward the door and just as I reached the other side I found myself in a Cathedral of sorts. Instantly I was afraid, but not too afraid to examine my surroundings for an escape route, because I knew I would need one.
I stood with my back towards two huge wood doors. There were seven to ten rows of very long bench seats made of wood on each side of the huge room. The floor was also made of wood. In front of the benches was a platform that reached from one side of the room to the other in a half elliptical shape. There were two steps built around the platform for step up access. At front center of the platform was a podium with a book upon it. To the right of the platform was a dark area that I assumed to be an entrance into another part of the cathedral. I felt that there was possibly a door there just beyond my sight.
I felt that I was in an ancient, gothic cathedral and that it was at this time an evil place to be. I felt that human sacrifices had been made there at some time. I felt I was in grave danger.
I suddenly noticed a movement to the left of the platform. Upon investigating this further I was terrified when I saw a huge, demon-like shadow. The shadow was so huge that it filled the entire left side of the cathedral between the benches and the platform. The shadow had four legs, a long tail and red glaring eyes.
Hoping to remain unnoticed by this beast I slid to my left and crouched down behind one of the benches nearest the double doors behind me. I peered over the bench and much to my horror this beast was coming toward me ever so slowly. It knew I was there. The closer it came to me the larger the beast appeared to be. I thought of running to the other side of the room to scale the wall to the dark area in front of the room and to the right of the platform.
Suddenly, I felt my heart racing quickly and I knew I had no time to make it to this dark corridor for the beast spanned much of the room. Suddenly my only thought was to awaken my physical body and I assume I exited the same way I entered for suddenly I found myself trying desperately to wake myself; however, I could not move and the vibrations had returned. I tried to scream to catch my boyfriend's attention. He was sleeping peacefully at my side. I couldn't understand why he could not help me. In my panic I willed my spirit or soul to reach out and shake him and when that did no good I proceeded to bite him on the upper arm in an effort to wake him so he could wake me. It was only oddly peculiar that his arm was a strange yellowish color and looked plastic. None of my attempts to wake him helped.
I felt myself being pulled back to this other spirit world and continued my fight to wake my body. I finally managed to moan slightly, but it was barely audible. I continued with the moaning, because I knew that if I could get him to shake me I would be able to move again. I was finally able to moan loud enough for him to hear me, and he dutifully shook me to wake me up. I had informed him of the "night terrors" I have many years prior to this and asked him to shake me if he ever heard me moaning or screaming.
So he shook me and I was once again able to move and was fully awake in the physical. We lay there for a few minutes talking. I asked him if I had bitten him. Of course, his reply was "no". We then decided to go back to sleep. Upon this decision I got comfortable and concentrated on sleep again. The vibrations returned, the ringing of the ears returned and I once again began panicking, and, once again, I found that I couldn't move. My boyfriend once again shook me when I finally managed to make some noise. I had to get out of bed that night and stay awake in the physical, because each time I tried to sleep the vibrations came.
With this experience came worries that I was losing my mind. The oddest part of the whole thing was that I was certain that I had actually bitten his arm and was worried that I had hurt him. Shortly after this experience I began having more frequent premonitions of not only bad things to come, but good things as well. I found that I could read things while experiencing these things. I also found out that no one likes to hear my experiences if it involves them, because it means possible impending danger for them.
Then I constantly started feeling that someone or something was trying to contact me. I tried speaking about it to various people only for them to tell me I was only having nightmares. But I knew these "things" were more than dreams. At this particular time I was still completely unaware of what was truly happening to me.
And this, dear Alfred, was my most frightening experience. Since then, my
experiences are several times a week. I'll stop writing at this point as this
has become lengthy. I would appreciate any feedback you can provide. Thank
you so very much for such a great web site and for your email as well.
